The Years 2019 and 2020 are significant in the life and history of Notre Dame ... namely, we celebrated in 2019 the Fiftieth anniversary of the Canonisation of our Foundress, Saint Julie Billiart and 2020 will see the Congregation’s 18th General Chapter being held in Nairobi, Kenya. This venue in the Southern Hemisphere is for the first time in the history of the Congregation which was founded in France in 1804.
The Canonisation Celebrations were jubilant and extensive throughout the Notre Dame World. In Scotland, Sisters not only remembered St Julie but also brought to mind many of our fore Sisters as we listened to the Song "we are standing on the shoulders of those who have gone before us" ..... In England a thousand pupils, students and friends associated with Notre Dame gathered in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King in Liverpool to celebrate Mass.
The Notre Dame Congregation serves people in five Continents of the World viz Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and United States. Sisters, through a Gospel Way of Life, Community and Prayer proclaim God’s Goodness especially to the poor.
Each Sister commits her life to work with others to create justice and peace for all.
The Mission Statement for the Sisters of Notre Dame is
"making known God’s Goodness."
This is done through the Ministry of Education.
At the General Chapter, the Superior General with her Leadership Team and the Delegates chosen from each area of the Congregation will meet to look at the mission of the Congregation. This particular Chapter in 2020 will among other topics, look at the Care of Creation; Social Justice; A Theology for our Time and Governance.
In our Modern Age which moves quickly, Change will obviously be a part of our Chapter Meetings. We are preparing for this by Renewing and Transforming ourselves in the Spirit of our Good God . We will be Called to Change. We will be called to let Go and let God re shape our Mission to proclaim to the Whole World that God is Good !
